Helping Your Spouse Get Back In Shape

There is nothing worse than looking at your spouse, whom you love, and realizing that the honeymoon is definitely over. You may look at them one day and realize that they need to get off of the couch and start moving again.

This can be a delicate issue to approach, especially with women who usually feel a lot of pressure to stay in shape. Perhaps your spouse isn't getting their haircut as often, they are putting on the weight, and they just aren't as active as before. It's normal to feel a bit worried about your spouse and the way that they appear, but you still need to approach this topic very delicately.

If you believe that your spouse needs to hit the gym and lose weight, don't make it about them, instead make it about you. Tell them that in the past few months or years you know that you have not been working out as often as you should and you need to start hitting the gym more regularly. Tell them that you would like their help staying motivated and getting to the gym, which is essentially inviting them to go with you. Make the most of this time not only by getting the two of you back to an ideal weight, but also make it a bonding time.

If you feel like your spouse is just not taking care of themselves as well as they should you can remedy this as well. Instead of just wondering what you should do about that shaggy hair, those dirty nails, and the once shaved surfaces of their body, take action! You can suggest that you go to the spa together, offer to shave them, or even give them a gift certificate to their favorite spa to get their haircut, to get waxed, and even to get their nails done. This will allow you to restore them to their previous beauty without being offensive.

Is the style of dress the problem? It seems like when we get comfortable in relationships and as we age we start caring more about comfort than we do about style, and this is normal. Of course, we also like to see our spouse looking good every once and again, so make an excuse to get dressed up, take your spouse shopping for some new clothes, and talk about how you can hide the areas that they are self conscious about while making the most of their best attributes. If you make them feel good in their new sexy clothes they will be more likely to dress in a manner that you find appealing more often. This is more effective than telling them that you think they dress like a slob!

As you can see, you can help your spouse trim down and just start looking better. As we age and get comfortable we all get more relaxed about the way that we look, so don't be too hard on your spouse. Build them up and make them feel good, this is generally the best way to get the response and the results that you are hoping for.
